I like progress
Island demo begins...the nasty sink and counter are being removed.
And taken away for burial.
Um...the cabinetry was only one indication of the severe lack of maintenance at this house, prior to our ownership. YUCK.
Seriously...make me vomit.
The block being removed was the original structural exterior wall. The island was formerly an entire wall of upper and lower cabinets...with a small window above the sink...long gone now..
Wowzers...the space in the kitchen is HUGE....I am so effin excited to start using the kitchen...party at my house when it's completed!
Another nasty shot of the cabinetry...rotted to the core!
We had to break through the concrete again to change out the kitchen plumbing. The old kitchen plumbing was wacko. Amazing we didn't see more leaks under there. Gross.
43 years of roach poop and other crap....I hurled. So effin gross. UG.
For real....what a mess!
Seriously...how did things get soooo bad?!
Purdy new plumbing...glorious....shiny and new.
Matt put down the toe kicks for the 2 sets of cabinets that make up the island. What cabinet space we love in uppers, we make up for with 2 sides of cabinets on the island.
The "cooking" side of the island is installed...along with our new trash and recycle rollouts. Our 3 compartment white enamel sink will be undermounted under Stellar Snow silestone. We have a sweet Hansgrohe faucet and soap dispenser. The new Jennair gas downdraft cooktop will go on the far end of the island. And a fancy new GE stainless steel dishwasher will go on the opposite end of the island.
I feel like we are making some progress now. We have more plumbing to be done next week for the gas cooktop and rough in plumbing for the sink, I guess.
We got our fancy new stools and dining chairs this week. We ordered the chairs online and bought the stools at Copenhagen. They totally match which is awesome. We got 12 chairs for the big dinner parties we hope to throw at the end of the year. We bought 5 stools that swivel, have gas lift, and back support...they rock!
Here's a view to the backside of the "cooking" side of the island. Once the plumbing and electric are done, the "eating" side of the island can be installed and the subtop can be put on. Then we will have the counters measured and ordered.
Here's a photo of the new dining chairs with the teak table. The table expands to seat 20...we only bought 12 chairs because we don't ever think we'll have 20 people over for dinner. If we do, 5 of them can sit at the island and the rest will have to stand! hahahahha.
Here's the view to the indoor/outdoor fireplace. We still haven't decided how to finish it. Maybe smooth-as-butter white concrete? Or white wood? Or white tile? We're thinking white is the way to go to make it pop!
